Thinking with Thanks: Writing Thank You Notes for Condolences

by epi on August 4, 2014

Q: My sister and I have been given the task of writing the thank you notes after my mother’s memorial service. Do we need to acknowledge the senders of cards? We know we need to thank those who sent flowers and gifts. Do we need to personally thank the people who make donations to her charity?

A: You write thanks for flowers, acts of kindness, Mass Cards, gifts, and donations in her memory. You do not need to write to those who sent a sympathy card with a signature. You would write to anyone who took the time to write a personal note or letter.
