Q: I am single but have a lot of married friends and family. Each year at Christmas when sending and receiving gifts, I usually receive a gift from ‘Eric and Julie’ or from ‘Bill and Margie’, however I usually feel I have to buy for each of them individually. This seems a little unfair, not to mention sometimes costly. Is it necessary when buying for a married couple to buy separate gifts, or would buying one gift for them be acceptable?
A: No, it’s not necessary and you certainly shouldn’t feel obligated to give separate gifts to a couple. A joint gift they both could enjoy would be fine. The point is to give something you can afford and can give with affection.
