Q: I visit my boyfriend’s home regularly. His roommate who is also his sister
believes that it is necessary for me to greet her first 100% of the time. It is my belief that as the ‘hostess’ or owner of the home she should make
the first move as far as greeting is concerned. Who should greet whom?
A: In most cases, the person entering a home, room, or office should be greeted by the person(s) already there and made to feel welcome. Your boyfriend’s sister should greet you when you first enter their house or first encounter her, and you should return the greeting. But if she is the one entering the house or the room and you are already there, you should greet her.
