Oh, Sugar!: How to properly sugar your coffee or tea

Q: Having ordered a cup of coffee in a restaurant, is it more appropriate to pour the sugar from the container right into the coffee, or pour the sugar into a teaspoon and then  place the teaspoon with the sugar into the cup?

A: You pour the sugar into the teaspoon and then lower the spoon into the cup.

If a person doesn’t eat sugar and instead sweetens their food with honey, would you recommend they provide honey dispensers or mini honey pots with sticks for their guests? What is the proper way to sweeten your coffee or tea with honey?

Honey could be squeezed directly from a bottle into a cup of coffee. If the coffee is in a jar or pot, a clean spoon should be provided that really is only used once – to spoon one spoonful of honey into the coffee and then used to stir it. If the person required more honey, then another spoon would be required. In my opinion, a squeeze bottle is more efficient, but the better honeys come in jars.
