Q: How fast should you respond to emails?

A: You should reply within one to two days for personal messages and within twenty-four hours for business emails, depending on how pressing the matter is. If you will be away from your computer for a few days or longer, use the “vacation” or out-of-office feature, which tells the sending you received the message but are unable to reply until a designated date.

I know that people can be busy…but in some cases, people who take the longest to reply to emails are ones whom I KNOW to have smartphones that they are CONSTANTLY checking. Thus, not responding in a timely fashion basically tells me how important I am to them. I’ve pruned a few “friendships” in this manner.

To be fair, some people have difficulty typing on smart phones so they avoid writing long emails until they have an actual keyboard.
