When two people who already know each other are introduced by a third party (who doesn’t know that they know each other), which of the two state how they know each other?

Either can say “didn’t I meet you at that place?”

One of them can say, “Actually, I think we met last Christmas at Company X’s holiday party.” or similar.

I think it depends on the situation. In a casual setting, I think it would be acceptable for either person to say, “Oh yes, we know each other from….” In a more formal or business situation it would be proper for the person to whom the introduction is being made to mention the previous acquaintance.

Example,

“Ms. Client, I’d like to introduce our VP of Marketing, Mr. Boss”

Ms. Client: “Hello! Nice to see you again!” etc.

The person who is being introduced shouldn’t mention the previous acquaintance because it would be incredibly awkward if the other person didn’t remember!
