Parental Protocol: Initiating contact before a wedding

by Daniel Post Senning on May 2, 2013

Q: Do the parents of the groom-to-be invite the bride’s parents out for dinner to
meet them after the kids get engaged?

A: When parents of the bride and groom have not met each other before the wedding, tradition has it that the groom’s family calls the bride’s family to introduce themselves, express their happiness, and extend an invitation for a meeting.

In my case, my parents and my husband’s parents live in different cities. So his parents had travel all the way by plane to my city to meet my parents for the first time. It was a memorable day :)
