Food Feud: Using your knife for help

by epi on April 19, 2013

Q: My husband says that it is proper to push food around the dinner plate with a knife and use the knife to push it on the fork, but I don’t agree. What is the right way?

A: It is okay to use the knife to assist when food is difficult to put on the fork, but the knife should not be used like a snowplow to push food to the fork.

It is still a mystery where Americans have dropped the habit of eating with knife and fork. No pushing the food around with a knife but for holding the knife into the right hand without switching the fork from left hand to right hand… You actually do cut food with your knife and helping it onto the fork but not by shoving.
Happy Sunday to all of you!
