Garrulous Gym-goers: Wanting peace and quiet

by epi on March 28, 2013

Q: My friend goes to the gym at the same time that I go. She gets on the treadmill next to me and starts blabbing away. I want peace and quiet! Should I tell her? If so, how?

A: For many of us, the gym is a private refuge from stress. Yes, speak up kindly. Tell your friend that as much as your enjoy her company, at the gym you need to concentrate on exercising. Then suggest getting together sometime after the workout, so she doesn’t feel rejected.
