Gratitude Gaffe: Delayed thank-you notes

by epi on August 3, 2012

Q: A month ago, my friend let me use her lake cabin for a weekend and, embarrassingly enough, I completely forgot to send a thank-you note.  How do I make amends?

A: This faux pas is completely fixable.  Sit down and write the note.  Focus on your friend’s generosity, not on the time lapse between the visit and your thank-you note.  A kindness of this magnitude can call for a gift as well.  You could send something for the cabin, such as beach towels or a bird feeder; a houseplant, flowers, or a gift card for a local restaurant would be a good bet, too.
