Secret Snowflake: Opting out

by epi on December 13, 2011

Q: My office is holding a secret snowflake exchange.  I’d like to participate, but my family’s holiday budget is already squeezed to the limit.  Is it OK to opt out?

A: Secret snowflake works best when everyone participates, so do try, if you possibly can.  Choose an easy, economical gift- homemade cookies or a jar of Mom’s jam.  If this is beyond your means, tell your boss privately before the holidays that you can’t take part.  Then they can take your name off the gift-recipient list so that all works out fairly.
