Q: My friend always inquires about how much my things cost- earrings, shoes, even my vacation. What if I’d rather not say?
A: Don’t answer. Change the subject: “These shoes? They’re not as comfortable as I thought they’d be. Where did you get yours?” Or come out and say, “I prefer not to talk about how much things cost; thanks for understanding.” If she persists in using you as her personal consumer price index, you may want to limit your contact with her.

If I don’t want to give the information, I’ll usually say that I don’t remember.
