Considerate Condolences: Saying thanks after the memorial

by epi on August 19, 2011

Q: My sister and I have have been given the task of writing the thank you notes after my Mother’s memorial service.  Do we need to acknowledge the senders of cards, flowers, and gifts?  Do we need to personally thank the people who make donations to her charity?

A: You should write thanks for flowers, acts of kindness, cards, gifts, and donations in her memory. You do not need to write to those who sent sympathy notes with a signature. You would write to anyone who took the time to write a personal note or letter.

This was very helpful. I am so glad I found this site. Our mother was so concerned about doing the proper thing and I know she’d be proud I took the time to look up to who m we were supposed to send thank you notes.
