Tight Quarters: Coworker too close for comfort

Q: The person who works in the cube next to mine listens to my conversations and often chimes in. How do I get her to mind her own business?

A: The unavoidable problem of working in a cubicle: Those around you can hear every word. But there’s a difference between overhearing and eavesdropping, which is what it sounds like your coworker is doing. Say “Amy, I know we’re in close quarters, but could you please give me some privacy while I’m on the phone?” You can also arrange to use a conference room for personal phone calls or invest in a white noise machine.
