After sleeping in guest room as a guest, should I unmake bed, remove used sheets, replace all other bedding (comforter, coverlet, etc.) or make up bed with used sheets under covers as originally found ? ? ? Usually if asked, the homeowner will of course say, “oh just leave it as is…” I feel like I should somehow “help” !!!

“How to Leave the Bed” from Etiquette 17th edition (pp 468).
On the morning of the day you are going to leave, ask your hostess what she would like you to do with your bed linen, and then follow her wishes. If you’re uncertain what to do, standard practice is to remove the sheets, fold them, place them at the foot of the bed, and pull the blanket and spread up neatly so that the bed will look made. If you make it up with your sheets in place, it is all too easy for a busy host to forget, turning down the bedspread for the next guest only to find used sheets.
Should you make the bed with fresh sheets? That depends. If the two of you are only casual friends, your host may feel uncomfortable because she thinks such a task is the duty of the host. But if you’re close friends, and you visit frequently, go ahead and ask for fresh sheets and save your host the trouble.
