I go to the gym with a coworker and we rotate days on who drives. I tend to get undressed and dressed quicker and since she takes longer, it make me late getting to back to work.
How do I go about starting to drive separately without getting her upset?
It sounds like you need to talk to your friend. Clear communication is important in showing someone respect and this can go a long way toward reducing hurt feelings caused by our actions. You can explain to your friend that it is important to you to keep a work schedule that gets you to work on time. This way you avoid making a judgment about her behavior. You can confess that you are currently missing your starting time and ask her if she minds making a commitment to timing your carpool to so that you can keep your schedule. If she can you might be able to keep the ride share. If not, she will understand the reason why you have decided to start driving yourself.
