Sneaky Shopper: When someone cuts you in line

by EPI Staff on January 18, 2010

Q: I love January sales but hate how aggressive the crowds get.  When a cashier lets someone cut in front of me, may I tell the line jumper that it’s my turn?

A: Yes.  If someone pushes in front of you, calmly say, “Excuse me, but I don’t think you realize that I was ahead of you.”  If they don’t retreat, let the matter drop for the moment, since there’s nothing to gain from a confrontation.  But afterward, let the store manager know what happened so they can ask cashiers to try to prevent such situations.

A quiet, gentle blow, using a tissue or your own handkerchief is alright, but if a more serious blow is necessary, you should excuse yourself from the table and go to the restroom. The same applies for a sneezing attack. Never, never, never use your napkin!

I get physically ill when someone blows their nose at the table and they use a linen napkin. yuk, I would say emergency only!
