Miffed Movie Goer: When other's children are loud

by EPI Staff on January 4, 2010

Q: At a 9:00 movie the other night, I was sitting in front of a couple with a baby.  At one point the infant started screaming and continued for five minutes.  The parents just kept watching the show.  I wanted to suggest that one of them take him outside-should I have?

A: Your frustration is justified.  You paid to see a movie, not to listen to a crying infant.  Next time, complain to the manager-it’s their responsibility to deal with out-of-control children, loud patrons, and ringing cell phones.  In some theaters, management will even refund tickets of families asked to leave due to cranky kids-just to keep all customers happy.  Note to parents:  There are occasions when it is inconsiderate to bring an infant, and a 9:00 P.M. movie is one of them.

I’m guessing that the kind of folks who would let their baby cry for five minutes in a movie are not the kind to read this column!
