Hefty Husband: When your spouse puts on some holiday weight

by EPI Staff on January 27, 2010

Q: My husband has gained a fair amount of weight over the winter.  I want to help him lose the extra pounds, but I suspect he’s sensitive about the subject.

A: The best idea would be to say nothing, but serve lower-calorie food and ask him to go on walks with you.  Think about how you’d react if the roles were reversed and he suggested that you lose some weight!  The best approach is to do what you can to make things easier for him.  But if he brings up the topic of his weight, or if he’s usually responsive to your input and you feel comfortable raising the subject with him, offer him your help and support.
