Q: My sister asked me if I thought she needed to lose a few pounds, and I said yes, but then she got upset. This is such a land mine. What’s the best response to such a question?
A: Even in the most delicate situations, you should always be honest. But remember, it’s not what you say, it’s how you say it. Soften the blow by replying, “Yes, but you’re certainly not alone-there’s a reason why dieting is a multimillion-dollar industry.” You might also want to suggest a plan of action, such as a gym class.

How about returning the question w/ genuine interest. “What do you think” or “What brings this up now?” It might help give you some insight into what the person is really asking.
No, no, no! LOL! Your first response should be, “Why do you ask? Do you think you should?”
OK, OK, how about “Would you like to get some ice cream and discuss it?”

Devora,
My comment was not to you, but to the original answer; you and I are often on the same page, and certainly on this, but yes, I’m up for a cone! Fondly, Karen
What is correct way to write RSVP….rsvp….r.s.v.p.?
Technically, its R.s.v.p. as it is a sentence. However, R.S.V.P. is not uncommon. Yes, you should use periods after each letter.
