Top Doc: When your doctor goes above and beyond

by EPI Staff on July 28, 2009

Q: My doctor provided such exceptional care during my recent pregnancy that I’d like to send him something.  Would that be proper, and if so, should I mail the gift to his home or his office?

A: Although patients don’t usually give their doctors presents, in your case, it would be fine to send a small gift.  You’ll want to enclose a note of appreciation for all he did for you.  The best course is to select something for his office and send it there.  You might want to gear the gift to one of his hobbies-a golf-themed paper, say.  Check with his receptionist for ideas.
