Dear Charlene,

I am sorry no one has answered your inquiry before now and assume the memorial service has already taken place. Your patent shoes (and hosiery, please...no bare legs here!) and bag are fine, and as for color, I have found this a regional choice (and seasonal) and often socio-economically based. Subdued is always best, and I'm sure we know its hard to be subdued in a shocking pink sheath, but your instincts were on the right path.

My apologies in the delay and my sympathy on your loss.

I am invited to memorial service for a gal I grew up with. Do people still wear all black? Is patent leather acceptable? I thought of making a black jacket over a sheath in some other color or vice versa. Have patent leather shoes and bag, is this alright?
