Could you please tell me what is an appropriate gift to bring to an engagement party.

Generally, unless it is a local custom, engagement gifts are not obligatory and are not expected even at an engagement party. If given, an engagement gift is really a good-hearted gesture of affection, and it doesn’t need to be elaborate or expensive. You might give a picture frame with a favorite photo of you and the couple, a guest book or photo album, a bottle of good wine, or a set of guest towels. If some guests do bring presents to an engagement party, the gifts should not be opened until after the party so that guests who didn’t bring a gift are not embarrassed.
